Materials per attempt

Value each material at its Market price, even if you farmed it: that's the Kina you give up by not selling it. Enter 0 to count it as free.

Failures and great successes

100% if a failure uses everything up. Lower it if your recipe keeps some materials when it fails.

What a craft really costs

The price of a crafted item isn't just its recipe. Every attempt costs a Kina fee, and every failure can eat materials without giving you anything back. So the real cost per item depends on your success chance, and a batch's total is a range rather than one number. This calculator reports three points on that range:

  • Minimum. Every attempt succeeds. You'll rarely see this unless the recipe can't fail.
  • Expected average. The long-run mean cost of the batch, and the cost per item it implies.
  • 90% budget. Nine out of ten runs cost less. Budget this much if running out halfway through would hurt.

How the maths works

With a success chance p, each successful craft takes 1 ÷ p attempts on average, so an 80% recipe averages 1.25 attempts and a 25% recipe averages 4. If you need several successful crafts, the number of failures along the way follows a negative binomial distribution. The calculator works out its average and its 90th percentile exactly, so the same inputs always give the same answer, with no simulation.

Successful crafts needed = items wanted ÷ items per craft, rounded up
Expected failed attempts = crafts × (1 − p) ÷ p
Cost per attempt = Kina fee + Σ material qty × value
Cost per failed attempt = Kina fee + material value × share lost
Total = crafts × cost per attempt + failures × cost per failed attempt

Craft or buy?

Enter the Market price per item and the calculator compares buying the items you want with the average cost of crafting them. It also shows the break-even sell price: the listing price at which selling everything you craft covers its average cost, after any sale fee. Crafting for profit only makes sense when items sell above it. Great-success results count towards that profit if you give them a value.

Prices on a player Market move, so treat the comparison as a snapshot. Check current prices before a large batch.

Where to get the numbers

Use the materials, fee and success chance your game client shows for the recipe, and current Market prices for the materials and the finished item. We don't publish AION 2 recipes or rates because we haven't found official Global information on them, and numbers copied from other regions or fan sites may not match your server.

Turn the estimate into a plan

Press Add to Kina Planner to save the average or the 90% budget as a Kina goal, then see how many farming hours it takes in the Kina Goal Planner. Your measured rate from the Farming Session Tracker makes that estimate personal. Upgrading the item afterwards? Price that in the Upgrade Budget Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator include AION 2 recipes or success rates?
No. We haven't found official Global information on AION 2 crafting recipes, success chances or fees, so nothing is built in. Enter what your game client and the Market show. The example uses made-up numbers and is labelled that way.
What is the 90% budget?
Failures make a craft's cost a range rather than one number. The 90% budget is the amount that covers 9 out of 10 possible runs. If running out of Kina halfway through a batch would hurt, plan around it instead of the average.
Should I count materials I farmed myself?
Usually yes, at their Market price. Farmed materials could have been sold, so using them costs you that Kina. If you couldn't sell them anyway, enter 0 to count them as free.
What if a failed craft only loses some materials?
Set “Materials lost on a failed craft” to the share that's used up. The Kina fee is always counted on every attempt. At 100%, a failure uses up everything, just like a success.
How do great successes work here?
If your recipe sometimes gives a better result, enter the chance (as a share of successful crafts) and what that result is worth. A great success still counts as a successful craft, so it never changes how many crafts you need. It only adds value when you sell.
Is it cheaper to craft or to buy?
Enter the Market price per item. The calculator compares buying the items you want with the average cost of crafting them, and shows the break-even price: the listing price at which selling everything you craft covers its cost.
