AION 2 · Enhancement budget

AION 2 Gear Upgrade Budget Calculator

Find out what an enhancement really costs, including the unlucky runs. Enter each level's success chance, Kina fee and materials, plus any downgrade, failure bonus or protection rules, and see the minimum, the average and a budget that covers 90% of outcomes.

Bring your own numbers. No AION 2 enhancement rates are built in. NCSOFT publishes official rates for the Korean version only, and Global values may differ. Enter what your game client shows. The examples use made-up values and are labelled that way.

Minimum, average, median and the unlucky budget

Enhancement costs aren't one number. They're a range shaped by luck, so this calculator reports four:

  • Minimum. Every attempt succeeds as soon as it can. You'll rarely see this.
  • Expected average. The long-run mean. A few disastrous runs pull it above what most players pay.
  • Simulated median. Half of the 20,000 simulated runs cost less than this.
  • 90th percentile (P90). Nine out of ten runs cost less. Budget this much if running out halfway would hurt.

How the maths works

For a level with a constant success chance p, the expected number of attempts is 1 ÷ p, so a 25% level averages 4 tries. With a failure bonus, the chance rises after each failure, and the calculator sums the exact probability of needing each extra attempt. When failures can drop levels, it solves the chain of re-climbs exactly as long as no failure bonus is involved. Otherwise, the average comes from the simulation too.

Expected attempts (constant rate) = 1 ÷ p
Expected attempts (with bonus) = Σk≥0 P(first k attempts all fail)
Cost per attempt = Kina fee + Σ material qty × value + protection
Total = Σ attempts × cost per attempt + failures × recovery cost

The simulation uses a fixed seed (shown in the settings), so you and a friend entering the same numbers get identical results. Each simulated run stops at 250,000 attempts, and the whole simulation has a work limit, so impossible setups can't freeze your browser.

Where to get the numbers

Use the success chance and costs your game client shows on the enhancement screen, and current Market prices for materials. NCSOFT's official probability tables for the Korean version list, per level, a success rate, a correction added after each failure (the calculator's “bonus per failure”), what happens on failure, the Kina cost and the enhancement stones used. That's a useful map of which fields matter. But rates can differ between regions and patches, so this tool has no built-in AION 2 rates until official Global numbers exist.

Turn the estimate into a plan

Press Add to Kina Planner to save the average or the 90% budget as a Kina goal, then see how many farming hours it takes in the Kina Goal Planner. Your measured farming rate from the Farming Session Tracker makes that estimate personal.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator include official AION 2 enhancement rates?
No. NCSOFT publishes official enhancement probabilities for the Korean version (probability.plaync.com), but we found no equivalent for the Global version, and Korean values may not match Global. So the calculator ships without built-in rates rather than guessing. Enter the rates and costs your client shows. The two examples are clearly labelled as made-up numbers. The preset format is versioned, so verified data can be added later with its source, region and review date.
What is the difference between the expected cost, the median and the 90th percentile?
The minimum is the cost if every attempt succeeds on the first try. The expected cost is the long-run average, and a few very unlucky runs pull it up. The median is the cost half of all simulated runs stayed under. The 90th percentile (P90) is the budget that covered 9 out of 10 simulated runs. If you want to be fairly sure you won't run out mid-upgrade, plan around the P90.
How is the simulation done?
It replays the whole upgrade 20,000 times with a fixed random seed, so the same inputs always give the same numbers. It runs in a background thread so the page stays responsive. When no stage can lose levels, or levels can be lost but no failure bonus is involved, the average is calculated exactly instead of simulated.
How do failure bonuses and pity work here?
A failure bonus adds percentage points to a level's success chance after each failure at that level, up to the cap you set. The counter belongs to that level and resets only when that level succeeds, so it survives a downgrade. Hard pity guarantees success after the number of failures you enter. Games differ, so match these settings to what you see in-game.
How do I model an item that can be destroyed on failure?
Korea's official tables show standard enhancement keeping its level on failure, while some special enhancements can destroy the item. To model destruction, set that level's failure rule to “Reset to a level” (your starting level) and enter the replacement item's Kina value as the recovery cost per failure.
What happens with impossible settings like a 0% success chance?
If a level has a 0% chance and no failure bonus or pity, the calculator tells you the target can't be reached instead of simulating forever. Setups that would need an astronomical number of attempts are flagged and not simulated, and each simulated run has a safety limit.
