What is an ipon challenge?

An ipon challenge is a savings game with fixed rules: you save a set amount on a schedule, and the amounts usually grow so the habit starts easy. One of the most popular versions in the Philippines is the 52-week challenge, where you save ₱50 in week 1, ₱100 in week 2, and keep adding ₱50 until week 52. Others save every ₱20 coin or bill they receive, aim for ₱100,000 in a year, or do a daily version with ₱1 more each day.

It fits how many Filipinos already save. In the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' 2025 Consumer Finance and Inclusion Survey, 44% of adults said they keep surplus money in a piggy bank or vault, compared with 17% who deposit it in a bank (BSP, 2025; respondents could give more than one answer). An ipon chart turns that alkansya habit into a plan with a finish line.

Ipon challenge totals at a glance

The ₱50 version totals ₱68,900, the figure Maya quotes, and the full range from ₱1 to ₱100 a week runs from ₱1,378 to ₱137,800, as Moneymax lists. The other rows use the same math.

How the chart is calculated

Increasing challenge: amount = start + increase × (period − 1)
Total = periods × start + increase × periods × (periods − 1) ÷ 2
Target challenge: per save = (target − already saved) ÷ number of saves in whole pesos; any leftover pesos are added ₱1 at a time to the first saves, so the total lands exactly on target
