How to Set Up Hunter Vault in 3 Minutes

This is step 1 of the Hunter Vault tutorial. You'll check your currency, tell the app when you get paid, add the account you use most (Hunter Vault calls accounts vaults), pick your monthly bills and set limits on a few spending categories. At the end you'll see the Premium screen. You don't need Premium to start, so I tap Continue with Free.

0:00 What you'll set up

In this video you'll set up Hunter Vault from a fresh install: your pay schedule, your main account, your bills, and a starter budget. It takes about 3 minutes. When you first open the app, tap Start My Vault.

0:18 What Safe to Spend means

First you get a preview of Safe to Spend. That's the number Hunter Vault builds for you: the money you have, minus what's set aside for upcoming bills. This one is sample data. Tap Set Up My Safe to Spend.

0:33 Choose your currency and current status

Check the currency at the top first. Hunter Vault guesses it from your phone's time zone. If it's wrong, tap Change. Then pick the option that sounds most like you right now. It shapes your first missions and the coaching tone, and you can change it later in settings. I'll pick Stable but stressed.

0:55 Set your pay schedule

Now tell it when you get paid. Your pay schedule sets the Safe to Spend window: how much you can spend before your next paycheck. You can pick monthly, twice a month, weekly, or irregular if your income changes. I get paid twice a month, on the 15th and the 30th.

Scroll down and tap Confirm Pay Schedule.

1:23 Add your first account

Next, add the account you use most. Hunter Vault calls your accounts vaults. Choose cash, bank, or e-wallet. I'll pick Bank.

The name fills in for you. Now type your current balance. It's optional, but it gives Safe to Spend a real starting point.

Then tap Create My Vault.

1:50 Pick your monthly bills

Now pick the bills you pay every month. I'll choose rent, electricity, and internet. You don't need amounts yet. You'll add amounts and due dates after setup.

Tap Continue.

2:07 Set a starter budget

Then set a monthly limit for a few spending categories. I'll put $400 on food and groceries, $150 on transportation, and $100 on entertainment. You don't have to fill in every row.

The total shows at the bottom. Tap Save My Budget.

2:34 Your setup summary

That's the setup. This summary shows your vault, your starter budget, and your first mission. It's local-first by default, and there's no bank login. Tap Enter the Vault.

2:51 Continue with the free plan

Next you'll see the Premium screen. Premium removes the free limits, but you don't need it to get started. Tap Continue with Free.

3:03 Your first quest

And you're on the home screen. Your first quest is already waiting: log your first expense. That's the next video in this series. Links to download Hunter Vault are in the description.
