How Hunter Vault Creator Codes Work
A creator code takes 10% off Hunter Elite and credits the purchase to the creator who shared it. Here's exactly where to enter one, how referral links work, and what to do when a code won't apply.
On this guide
// quick answer
- Where: the Hunter Elite upgrade screen in the Hunter Vault app, under "Have a code? Enter code"
- What it does: 10% off Hunter Elite, the one-time $15.99 USD upgrade, and the sale is credited to the creator
- Where it works: the iPhone and Android app only, not the website
- When: before you buy, because a code can't be added to a past purchase
- Referral links: a creator's link applies their code automatically, so you can skip typing it
Hunter Vault's core budgeting is free. Hunter Elite is the optional one-time upgrade that removes the free-tier limits (8 budget categories, 3 recurring entries, 5 accounts, 3 debts and 2 savings goals). A creator code is how you get it for less. It's also how creators in the Hunter Vault creator program get credit for recommending the app.
How to use a creator code
Install Hunter Vault
Download it free from the App Store or Google Play. You don't need an account to start.
Open the Hunter Elite upgrade screen
It appears as the last step of onboarding. If you skipped it, open it later from the upgrade button on your Profile, or tap upgrade on any "limit reached" prompt.
Tap "Have a code? Enter code"
An Enter Code box opens. Type the creator's code (letters and numbers; capitals are added for you) and tap Redeem Code.
Check the discount, then buy
When the code works you'll see a "Code applied ⚔️" message and a "Code applied: CODE" banner. The original price is crossed out, and the buy button reads "Unlock — [price] Lifetime" with "Special offer applied. One-time payment." underneath. Complete the purchase through the App Store or Google Play as usual.
Changed your mind about a code? Tap the X on the "Code applied" banner to remove it before you buy.
Using a creator's referral link instead
Creators can also share a link in the form link.huntervault.app/ref/CODE. It opens a "You've Been Recruited" page that shows the code, with a Claim Code & Download button.
- App already installed: the link opens Hunter Vault and saves the code.
- New install on Android: the code is passed through Google Play, so it's there the first time you open the app.
- New install on iPhone: tapping "Claim Code & Download" copies the code, and Hunter Vault reads it once the first time you open the app. If your iPhone asks whether Hunter Vault can paste, allow it.
A saved code is applied automatically the next time you open the upgrade screen, and the "Code applied" banner appears. If the banner doesn't show, type the code by hand using the steps above, letters and numbers only. A typed code works even when the link didn't carry over.
Rules worth knowing
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| One code per device | The first referral link you open is kept. A code you type on the upgrade screen replaces it. |
| Before purchase only | Owners of Hunter Elite don't see the upgrade screen, so codes can't be added after buying. |
| App only | Codes work in the iPhone and Android app. There's no checkout on the website. |
| Hunter Elite only | The discount and the creator's commission apply to Hunter Elite (Premium). Hunter Pass, cloud sync and Hunter Credits aren't discounted. |
| Refunds | A refunded purchase doesn't count toward the creator's earnings. |
| Active codes only | A code can be paused or disabled if it's misused, and a paused code won't apply. |
Troubleshooting a code that won't apply
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Enter a code to continue." | The box is empty. | Type the code, then tap Redeem Code. |
| "Couldn't verify the code. Please try again." | The app couldn't reach the server. | Check your connection and try again. |
| The App Store or Google Play "redeem" screen opens | The app didn't recognise it as a Hunter Vault creator code, so it handed it to the store (that's how store giveaway codes are redeemed). | Close the store screen, check the spelling, and type only the letters and numbers of the creator's code. |
| No "Have a code?" link | You already own Hunter Elite. | Nothing to do. Your upgrade is already active. |
| Opened a referral link, but no banner | Another code was saved first, or the link was opened before the app was installed and the code didn't carry over. | Type the creator's code on the upgrade screen. A typed code always takes priority. |
For creators: what this means for you
- Share both. A link saves your viewer from typing, and a short, readable code works when someone watched your video on another device.
- Say where it goes. "Enter it on the Hunter Elite upgrade screen" saves your viewers a search.
- Mention it before they buy. Codes can't be added after purchase, so a viewer who already upgraded can't use yours.
- Disclose it. Say you're a Hunter Vault creator partner when you share your code, at the moment you share it. The program terms cover the content rules.
Not a creator yet? The Hunter Vault creator program gives approved creators free Premium, their own code, and 20% of every Hunter Elite sale made with it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I enter a Hunter Vault creator code?
On the Hunter Elite upgrade screen in the Hunter Vault app. Tap "Have a code? Enter code", type the code and tap "Redeem Code". The upgrade screen appears at the end of onboarding, and you can open it later from the upgrade button on your Profile or from any limit-reached prompt.
What does a creator code give me?
10% off Hunter Elite (Premium), the one-time $15.99 USD upgrade that removes the free-tier limits. The discount shows on the upgrade screen before you pay. Core budgeting stays free whether or not you use a code.
Does a creator code work on Hunter Pass or cloud sync?
No. The discount applies to the Hunter Elite one-time upgrade only. Hunter Pass, cloud sync and Hunter Credits are priced separately.
Can I use a creator code on the website?
No. Hunter Elite is bought inside the Hunter Vault app through the App Store or Google Play, so codes are entered in the app on iPhone or Android.
Can I add a code after I already bought Hunter Elite?
No. Once you own Hunter Elite the upgrade screen no longer opens, so a code can't be applied to a past purchase.
Can I use two creator codes?
One code counts per device. If you type a code on the upgrade screen, it replaces any code saved earlier from a referral link.
