How to Track Bills and Turn On Auto-Pay

I add a $45 phone bill due on the 20th, with Housing as its expense category and my bank account under Pay with. Until a bill is paid, Safe to Spend keeps that money aside. Tapping the check pays it: the app logs the expense from your account and marks the bill paid for the month. Tap the check again to reverse a payment, which deletes the expense and puts the money back.

Then I add a $60 internet bill on my Visa card with Auto-pay on due date turned on. Auto-pay needs a Pay with account and a category. The bill was due today, so it paid right away and shows Paid this month. Paid bills reset every month.

Paid features shown: none. Recorded on a Premium account. Features and pricing can change; check the app for current details.

0:00 Your bills

In this video you'll track your monthly bills, and let the app pay them for you on the due date. Tap Profile, then Bills.

This is Base Protection, your bills. Rent is already paid this month. The total at the top is what your bills add up to every month. Tap plus to add one.

0:21 Add a bill with a due day

Type the bill's name. I'll add my phone bill. Then pick the type, Phone.

Set the day of the month it's due. Mine is the 20th.

Expense category is where the payment is logged in your budget. I'll use Housing.

Scroll down. Pay with is the account you usually pay from. I'll choose my bank account. Tap Continue.

Enter the amount, $45, and tap Set amount.

The phone bill is on the list, due on the 20th. Until a bill is paid, Safe to Spend keeps that money aside.

1:01 Pay a bill or undo a payment

When you pay it, tap the check. The app logs the payment as an expense from the account you chose, and marks the bill paid for the month. Tap Pay Bill.

Tapped it by mistake? Tap the check again. Reverse payment deletes the expense and puts the money back.

1:20 Turn on auto-pay

Now let's set a bill to pay itself. Tap plus again. This one is my internet, due today, the 14th.

Pick Housing again, and for Pay with, choose the Visa card. Now turn on Auto-pay on due date.

Each month on the due date, the bill is added to the card's balance automatically. With a bank account, it's paid from that account. Auto-pay needs both a Pay with account and a category. Continue, $60, Set amount.

Because it's due today, it was paid right away. It says Paid this month, and next month it resets.

2:03 Where auto-paid bills show up

In Activity, the internet bill is an expense on the Visa card, under Housing.

Paid bills reset every month, so you start each month with a fresh list. Next in Plan Your Money, we'll set up recurring transactions. Links to download Hunter Vault are in the description.
