- No Spend November means essentials only from November 1 to 30. The gamer version bans new games, DLC, battle passes, in-game currency, gacha pulls and hardware for the month.
- November 2026 is a hard month to try it: WoW Forever launches November 4, Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 starts November 6, GTA 6 launches November 19, and Black Friday is November 27.
- Decide your exceptions before November 1. One planned purchase paid from money you've already saved is fine. Anything you decide mid-month isn't an exception, it's a slip.
- Steam has no big sale in November. The next one is the Winter Sale, December 17, 2026 to January 4, 2027, so November's savings can fund a wishlist you've had a month to think about.
- Keep a 30-box checklist and an 'almost bought' list. On December 1, add up the list. That number is what the month saved you.
November 2026 is a crowded month for gamers. A major MMO launches in the first week, a Call of Duty season starts two days later, GTA 6 lands mid-month, and Black Friday closes it out.
That makes it the best month to try a no-spend challenge, not the worst. If you can get through this November without an unplanned purchase, you know your rules work. This guide gives you the calendar, the rules, a 30-day checklist and a plan for each trap. If you want the general ruleset for any month, start with our 30-day gaming no-spend challenge. This page is the November version.
Quick Answer: What Is No Spend November?
No Spend November is a 30-day challenge: from November 1 to November 30, you spend money only on essentials like rent, bills, groceries, transport and debt payments. A gaming No Spend November keeps your normal life spending and cuts the gaming part to zero: no new games, DLC, battle passes, in-game currency, gacha pulls or hardware for the month. Subscriptions you already paid for are fine. Set the rules and any single exception before November 1, then log every day.
The November 2026 Calendar: What You’re Up Against
Every date below is a moment someone will try to sell you something. Knowing them in advance is most of the work.
| Date | What happens | The temptation | Your move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 26 – Nov 2 | Steam Scream V Fest (Steamworks) | Horror games on discount in week one | Wishlist, don’t buy |
| Nov 4, 3 p.m. PT | World of Warcraft: Forever launches (Blizzard) | Upgrade packs, or a new subscription | Included if you already subscribe. Packs count as spending |
| Nov 6 | Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 starts (Infinity Ward) | Battle Pass, BlackCell, bundles | Play the free track |
| Nov 6 | Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collections (The Pokémon Company) | Sealed product with launch FOMO | Wait for prices to settle |
| Nov 11 | 11.11 shopping-app sales | Peripherals, merch, “it’s only today” | Add to the December list |
| Nov 16 – 23 | Steam Auto-Battler RPG Fest (Steamworks) | Genre discounts | Wishlist, don’t buy |
| Nov 19 | GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S (Rockstar) | Day-one purchase | Only as a pre-planned exception |
| Nov 27 | Black Friday (Cyber Monday is Nov 30) | Store-wide sales on everything | Write the December list instead |
| Dec 17 | Steam Winter Sale starts, runs to Jan 4 (Steamworks) | The reward for November | Spend your planned list here |
Two dates deserve a closer look before you start.
WoW Forever (November 4). Blizzard says access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. If you already pay for WoW, launch day costs you nothing new. The optional upgrade packs on the Battle.net Shop are the spending decision, and so is starting a subscription in November if you don’t have one. Our WoW Forever cost guide breaks down what each option costs.
GTA 6 (November 19). This is the one most people will want an exception for. It’s $79.99 for the Standard Edition, and Rockstar says purchases before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. See how much GTA 6 will really cost for the full total, including a console if you need one. The section on exceptions below covers how to handle it without breaking the challenge.
Step 1: Pick Your Version of the Challenge
There’s no official ruleset. Pick the version you’ll actually finish, and write it down.
- Full No Spend November. Essentials only, across your whole life: no takeout, no shopping, no gaming purchases. It’s the strictest version and saves the most, but it’s hard to keep for 30 days.
- Gaming No Spend November. Normal life spending stays the same. Gaming spending goes to zero. It’s the best fit if gaming is where your money leaks, and it’s the version this guide is built around.
- Gaming No Spend November with one planned exception. The same rules, plus one purchase you name before November 1, at a set price, paid from money you’ve already saved. GTA 6 is the obvious example. It’s still a challenge, because everything else is off.
Whatever you pick, the exception list closes on October 31. A purchase you decide on during the month is not an exception. It’s a slip, and you log it as one.
Step 2: Write Down What Counts
Gaming money leaks through small purchases that don’t feel like spending. Write the rules before you start, so you aren’t deciding when you’re tempted.
| Counts as spending | Doesn’t count |
|---|---|
| New games, including pre-orders that are charged in November | Subscriptions you already paid for before November 1 |
| DLC, expansions and upgrade packs | Essentials: rent, bills, groceries, transport, debt payments |
| Battle passes and season passes | Games, gift cards or credit someone gives you |
| In-game currency, gacha pulls, loot boxes and cases | Free-to-play games you play without buying anything |
| Wallet top-ups and gift cards you buy for yourself | Free demos and free weekends |
| New subscriptions, or upgrading a tier | Your one planned exception, if you set it before November 1 |
| Consoles, PC parts, controllers, headsets and other accessories |
Check your pre-orders. Many stores charge a pre-order close to release, so a game you pre-ordered in September can still hit your card in November. Decide before November 1 whether each pre-order is your planned exception. If it isn’t, cancel it.
Watch for auto-renewals. A subscription that renews in November is an existing subscription, so it doesn’t break the challenge. It is a good moment to ask whether you still use it, though. Our subscription audit walks through it.
Step 3: Set Up Before November 1
The challenge is won in the last week of October. Each of these steps adds friction between a tempting moment and a purchase:
- Remove your saved cards from Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Battle.net and mobile app stores. Our guide to removing a card from gaming accounts has the steps for each platform. Typing a card number in again is the pause you need.
- Start a December list. Every game or item you want in November goes on the list instead of into a cart. You can buy anything on it from December 1, if you still want it.
- Name where the money goes. Saving “whatever I don’t spend” fades by week two. Pick one destination: an emergency fund, a debt payment, or a fund for your Winter Sale wishlist. The savings challenge calculator turns a target into a daily and weekly mission.
- Write your exception down, with its price. Then put that money aside now, so the purchase in November comes from savings, not from November’s paycheck.
- Tell your squad. If your group buys games together, tell them you’re sitting out November. It’s harder to be talked into a co-op purchase once everyone knows.
The 30-Day Checklist
Copy this into your notes app or print the page, and tick off a box for every day you finish without an unplanned gaming purchase.
| Week | Days | The trap this week | Daily boxes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Nov 1–7 | Scream Fest ends, WoW Forever (Nov 4), MW4 Season 1 and the Pokémon collections (Nov 6) | ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ |
| Week 2 | Nov 8–14 | 11.11 shopping-app sales | ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ |
| Week 3 | Nov 15–21 | Mid-month payday for many people, Auto-Battler RPG Fest (from Nov 16), GTA 6 launch (Nov 19) | ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ |
| Week 4 | Nov 22–28 | Thanksgiving (Nov 26) and Black Friday (Nov 27) | ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ |
| Final days | Nov 29–30 | Cyber Monday (Nov 30) | ☐ ☐ |
Prefer paper? Print the calendar below. It has a box for each day, the month’s big sales and launches already marked, and space for your rules and your “almost bought” list.
Next to the checklist, keep an “almost bought” list: the date, the item and its price, every time you would have bought something. It’s the most useful part of the challenge. On December 1 it shows you what the month saved and which triggers got you closest to buying.
- Rules and version written down before November 1
- Exception named, priced and already saved (or “none”)
- Saved cards removed from every gaming account and app store
- Pre-orders checked: kept as the exception, or cancelled
- December list started, and a destination named for the money
How to Handle the Big Moments
WoW Forever and MW4 Season 1 (first week)
A launch week is full of streams and friends talking about upgrades. If you already pay for WoW, play Forever on the subscription you have and skip the upgrade packs until December. For Modern Warfare 4, play the free track of Season 1. If you still want the Battle Pass on December 1, it’ll be on your list, and by then you’ll know whether you’re still playing.
GTA 6 (November 19)
You have two honest options:
- Make it your one planned exception. Set it before November 1 and move $79.99 (or $99.99 for Ultimate) into savings now. On November 19 you buy it from money that’s already set aside, and nothing else in the month changes.
- Wait until December 1. You’ll pay the same price for the game, but Rockstar says the Vintage Vice City Pack only comes with purchases before November 20, so waiting costs you the bonus, not the game. In return, you get a clean month and a launch you didn’t buy out of hype.
Either option works. What breaks the challenge is deciding on November 18 that GTA 6 “doesn’t count.”
Black Friday (November 27)
Black Friday is the hardest day of the challenge, because the sales are real and they’re everywhere. Two things help:
- Steam has no big Black Friday sale this year. The Autumn Sale moved to early October and has already run. Valve’s next seasonal sale is the Winter Sale, starting December 17. On Steam, waiting costs you very little.
- Write prices on your December list. If a console store’s Black Friday price is a real historical low, note it. You’ll be able to compare it with December prices. Our guide to budgeting for Black Friday game deals shows how to tell a real deal from a fake one if you plan to shop the sales next year.
If you decide before the challenge starts that you’d rather shop Black Friday, run the challenge from November 1 to 26 and use that guide for the last few days. A 26-day challenge you keep is better than a 30-day one you quit.
What to Do on December 1
- Add up your “almost bought” list. That total is real money that stayed in your account.
- Move the savings to the destination you named in Step 3. Do it the same day, before the money disappears into general spending.
- Go through your December list. Cross off anything you no longer want. What’s left is a wishlist you’ve had a month to think about. The Steam Winter Sale, December 17 to January 4, is a good time to buy what you still want.
- Keep one rule into December. Good candidates: a 72-hour wait for anything not on your list, or keeping your cards off your gaming accounts.
Log the purchase, write the trigger on your almost-bought list, and carry on with tomorrow’s box. Restarting at day 1 turns one slip into a reason to quit. A November with one slip still costs far less than a normal one.
Track It in Hunter Vault
Hunter Vault is our own app, so take this as a recommendation from the team behind it. It’s a manual budgeting app with an RPG layer of quests, XP, ranks and streaks. It never connects to your bank. You log what you spend yourself, or import a bank CSV, which is free and parsed on your device.
For No Spend November:
- Tap “No Spend Today” on the dashboard on every day you spend nothing. A marked no-spend day still counts toward the daily tracking quests, so a quiet day earns its quest like a logged one. The app doesn’t keep a running count of no-spend days, so keep the 30-box checklist above alongside it.
- Give gaming its own budget category with a limit of zero for November, so a slip shows up straight away. The free plan includes up to 8 budget categories.
- Put November’s savings into a savings goal, such as a Winter Sale fund. A goal has a target, a deadline and a monthly contribution, so you can see the month’s savings add up.
Budgeting never requires a subscription. The app is on iOS and Android.
This is general educational content, not financial advice. Keep paying essentials, bills and debts during any no-spend challenge, and set the rules that fit your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is No Spend November?
No Spend November is a 30-day challenge where you spend only on essentials, such as rent, bills, groceries, transport and debt payments, from November 1 to November 30. The gamer version targets gaming spending: no new games, DLC, battle passes, in-game currency, gacha pulls or hardware for the month.
What counts as spending in a gaming No Spend November?
New games (including pre-orders that get charged in November), DLC, battle passes and season passes, in-game currency, gacha pulls, loot boxes and cases, cosmetic packs, wallet top-ups and gift cards for yourself, new subscriptions or tier upgrades, and new hardware or accessories. Subscriptions you already paid for before November 1, essentials, gifts you receive, and free-to-play games you play without buying anything don't count.
Can I buy GTA 6 during No Spend November?
Only as a planned exception you write down before November 1 and pay from money you already saved. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026. Rockstar says purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, so waiting until December costs you that bonus but not the game itself.
Is WoW Forever included with a WoW subscription?
Yes. Blizzard says access to World of Warcraft: Forever is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time when it launches on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific. The optional upgrade packs on the Battle.net Shop cost extra and count as spending in the challenge. If you don't subscribe yet, starting a subscription in November counts too.
When is the next Steam sale after November?
Valve's Steamworks schedule lists the Steam Winter Sale for December 17, 2026 to January 4, 2027. In November there are only themed fests: Steam Scream V Fest (October 26 to November 2) and the Auto-Battler RPG Fest (November 16 to 23). The money you don't spend in November can fund your Winter Sale wishlist.
What if I break my No Spend November?
Log the purchase, write down what triggered it, and carry on the next day. Don't restart at day 1. A November with one slip still costs far less than a normal November, and the trigger you wrote down tells you which rule to tighten.
